Located in Kirindiwela, in a setting amongst tropical vegetation, the banquet hall posed the challenge of designing to suite the atmosphere of the suburban context. As a result, giving rise to a banquet hall with an unusual language which allows guests to experience nature while enjoying indoor spaces. The design borrows views of the existing natural landscape along with the introduction of new landscape to merge together.
A pitched roof structure of the main entrance grabs the attention of the passersby while creating an interesting element that adds to the unique appearance of the building. The pitched roof structure at the main entrance acts as an element that adds to the overall ambience of the building. Upon entry to the building, a forecourt with tropical landscape has created a nature friendly outlook. The design is of a human scale to suite the context. Water bodies incorporated into the design creates an interesting feature when progressing through the banquet hall. The orientation of the building towards the main access road aims to provide a pedestrian friendly and welcoming setting.
The square element and geometric composition dominate throughout the design which creates a simple flow of spaces. Materials such as Titanium and Timber are used to create a natural colour palette for exterior finishes to blend in with the surroundings. The design consists of luxurious facilities while providing provision for future expansion as a hotel.
