This apartment complex and landscape in Germany gave the architect an exclusive experience of designing on European soil. The complex was designed primarily to focus on giving the user a sense of home while creating an impression of a community through visual connections that were given towards a centralized open space.
The landscape of this open space was designed to cater as an urban park for the residents unlike in the local context. The architect undertook the challenge of developing a landscape design scheme to respond to four different seasons in the country. The park was developed with a concept of catering to 3 sectors, people who come for recreational activities, facility consumer’s and. children who come to play.
Therefore, the types of plants used needed to be carefully articulated to make the park aesthetically appealing as well as practical in its locality. The lighting scheme was manipulated to function with a minimal running cost while giving a sense of security and comfort to the user. Play of different ground material provides a textural variety while highlighting different spaces and maintaining legibility in the landscape. A green belt of thick shrubs were introduced forming a dialogue between open and enclosed spaces. In addition to the material and textures, other intricate details of the landscape such as the playful element and terraced grounds plain have helped in contributing to a holistic landscape project.
